Founder Reflection: Alignment Matters

Somewhere between Order #1 and where PinMe 1913 stands today, I learned a lesson that extends far beyond business.
Alignment matters.
When I started PinMe 1913, I believed shared excitement naturally meant shared direction. If people believed in the idea, surely we’d all move toward the same destination.
I eventually learned that passion alone isn’t enough.
Vision must be aligned.
Standards must be aligned.
Intentions must be aligned.
Even the way people approach growth, creativity, communication, and conflict must be aligned.
As founders, it can be tempting to spend too much time trying to force harmony where there is constant friction. We become attached to the potential of an idea, a partnership, or a collaboration, believing that with enough effort everything will eventually click.
But misalignment has a way of revealing itself.
Sometimes quickly.
Sometimes only after you’ve invested far more time and energy than you should have.
I’ve also learned that alignment isn’t only about other people. It’s about yourself.
As you grow, your standards evolve. Your vision becomes clearer. What once felt acceptable may no longer fit the future you’re building.
Protecting the vision isn’t selfish.
It’s part of the work.
The right opportunities, environments, and collaborations should strengthen your purpose, not require you to abandon it.
Looking back, I realize some of my greatest growth came not from saying yes, but from recognizing when something, or someone, no longer aligned with where I was headed.
That lesson changed the way I build.
It changed the way I lead.
And it changed the future of PinMe 1913.
