Freedom, Legacy and the Work That Remains

Juneteenth is an opportunity to celebrate the freedom that we were all born with.

It is also an opportunity to engage with where we currently stand as a nation.

As conversations about equality continue. As conversations about civil rights continue. As we continue to examine what it means to be American and who has historically been afforded the full rights and privileges associated with that identity.

Juneteenth invites us to remember.

To remember the cost of freedom.

To remember the resilience of those who came before us.

To remember that progress has never been accidental. It has always required courage, action, and an unwavering belief in the possibility of something better.

For me, Juneteenth is not only a celebration of freedom. It is a celebration of culture. It is an opportunity to honor the rich and enduring legacy from which we come. It is a moment to reflect on the stories, traditions, achievements, and sacrifices that continue to shape our communities today.

It is also an invitation to ask important questions.

Where do we stand in the ongoing pursuit of equality?

How do we honor the work of those who came before us?

What responsibility do we have to those who will come after us?

Freedom is not simply a historical event. It is a continuing conversation. One that requires participation, reflection, vigilance, and hope.

At PinMe 1913, storytelling is at the heart of everything I create. Stories preserve history. Stories build connection. Stories remind us who we are and help us imagine who we can become.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, I hope we take time to celebrate, to learn, to reflect, and to engage thoughtfully with both our history and our future.
